Beautiful and well cared for hands and feet say a lot about you., so its important that we maintain and take care of our skin. You can begin by soaking your feet in warm soapy water for approximately 10-15 minutes. This will help soften and clean the skin. After soaking, gently remove calluses with a pumice stone, or emery board. This gets rid of dead skin cells as well as calluses. Use a soft gentle motion to buff away the dry skin. Make sure you get all the dead skin off before you go to the next step.
Once you're finished with the pumice, rinse the area that you just scrubbed to remove the dead skin. Some body scrub products can help exfoliate dead skin as well, just try if you can to go with organic compounds as they will be less likely to harm the skin and irritate it. Many pedicurists will also cut or shave calluses with razors. However, it is illegal for an unlicensed practitioner to cut the skin. It is not recommended to use razors.
If you have calluses or other areas with built up dry skin, do not try to remove it all in one day. Use the pumice stone over several days or weeks, gently buffing away the skin a little each day. Never apply heavy pressure to the pumice, or you'll end up buffing away healthy skin as well as dead. This can cause sores, open wounds and possible infection.
After you finish with the pumice stone, massage a cream or lotion into the feet. A foot message can also help relieve tension and sooth your tired, aching feet. You can get a good massage at home by rolling your feet back and forth over a rolling pin. After you have moisturized your feet, treat your feet to a spa like feel by wrapping them in plastic and then in a heated towel for 15 minutes. You can throw the towel in the dryer to warm it up, this will provide a true spa feel.
After applying the finishing touches, relax and put your feet up. They look good. And if, you've followed these guidelines, your feet will feel good, too. If you have diabetes, or other conditions that cause circulatory problems or numbness, consult your health professional before trying any of these treatments for calluses or corns.
